Beautiful to me

I think families are the most beautiful thing. They take on such an important part in our lives whether we can’t get enough of them or we would rather see less or none of them. Either way they take part in our lives and help shape who we are. I think the desire to start a family is a bizarre thing. I say this because for a bit in my life I wasn’t sure if I wanted it to be more than Joe (my husband) and I in our little immediate family, but then it snuck up on me and hit me like a ton of bricks that I wanted to expand this party of two we had going on. It took Joe a little longer and less like a ton of bricks more like a sloth trying to give him a hug. Why do we want this for ourselves….lack of sleep, less money for fun vacations, to be filled with constant worry for someone else’s life and survival, to be talked to with disrespect and given the silent treatment and for them to go off and start their own family’s and you become less and less a part of their world when they became your entire world. This makes no sense to me. Yet…I want it bad.

side bar: I know I just said I wanted kids. and maybe on “THE LATEST” is not the place to just throw out this information, but if I’m gonna be honest I tend to be an open book and splurt (I know that is not a word but it’s a perfect made up word to describe how I just tell everyone everything). I splurt it out whether you wanted it or not. So…we would like kids, we have been trying for several years and the road is taking different turns than we thought and still navigating through it all. While days, months, years have passed I still question why do we want this for ourselves….but…..to get back on point. —

It’s when I get to meet and photograph families like this that I see it all starts to make sense. This family. I know I say this a lot…but it has been a dream to photograph some sweet times in this family’s life. A DREAM! not just because that is what I do, but because this family is a DREAM! They would do anything for each other and make every day fun and full of life. They truly suck the marrow out of life and use every hour out of the day to it’s fullest potential. Kindness, oozes from them and you just feel good when you are around them.

So…maybe it doesn’t make sense that some want to lose sleep that they can never get back, and go on less exotic vacations, and devote a huge portion of their life to make sure another life is safe, happy and good with not a lot of thanks but it sure is beautiful to me.

Keeping it Real

I have been a lucky duck to photograph this family so many times over the years (even before their rad girl was born). It is something special to watch people enter parenthood. It’s also pretty sweet to watch how this cool as a cucumber gal is loved so much.

She came to the photo session with Lamby in one hand, her beats (blue tooth speaker) in the other. She picked out her rain boots to wear and her shades were a must. I’m gonna be real honest…I was nervous that maybe her parents would be bummed she had her shades on in every photo. We chatted a bit about it and they were all about her shades…..which I LOVED!!

I know the phrases “Keep it real” and “stay golden” are common, popular and maybe even cliche phrases (however I will never admit cliche because I like them too much). But those phrases are what I want my photos to scream! and I want to live by.

This little gal defines…keeping it real. Everyone in the neighborhood was charmed by her and she was only looking that cute for herself. There was even a woman that said to her mom as we walked by… “I want to be her when I grow up” or something like that (I can’t remember because this session was a while ago).
